-STORY HOUSE OF OPIUM-
Although opium is a drug and has a bad name in history, opium is an important history of Hong Kong and should not be forgotten or buried, because this is the origin of this place in Hong Kong, and this is the root of us Hongkonger.
Imports of Opium -
The Beginning
From the doorway on the second floor, you can see a curved surface that is completely different from the historical building outside. There is also a brick wall with transparent cracks, similar to smoke spreading from the entrance.
The different exhibition areas are separated by curved panels, and they can be seen from the bottom of the other end.
The power of the Opium House
One of the pavilions is about the long-standing period of the Hong Kong Opium Museum.
A poppy-shaped lamp hung in the centre of the area, and countless of its figures passed through the wall, representing the popularity of opium at that time.
On the ceiling, there are decorations in the shape of a swirl of smoke.
The leaf-shaped board next to it displays different historical stories that happened during that period.
The End and The Begin
The pavilion about the prohibition of opium a semi-open space-the illusion after inhaling opium is slowly disappearing by allowing the light from outside to enter the area and visitors could feel a sense of relief while interacting with the digital signages.
The area is appended to the corridor like the fresh air that people breathe in after the Opium ban, the information about the rapid development of Hong Kong is also displayed on the walls of the corridors as well.
Cafe - Part of the Story House
The sofa in the coffee shop is mimicking the beds used when making Opium in the old times.
You could see the middle pavilion vaguely through the partition from behind, keep the connection between them both even different events are ongoing during the day.
The ceiling is using the image of the smoke and catching enough light for the environment. Informative boards are displayed on the side.
There is an airway between the ground floor of the reflection space and the waterpipe smoking space in the lower level to allow the smoke to go through in between, and the centre of the floor of the upper floor is made of glass for you to look down at the area below. At the same time, there would be artificial smoke spreading inside the reflection room, creating a more private space and soothing atmosphere. There are also displaying boards for reflectors to write down their thoughts.
The Living Exhibits
Opium is always taboo, people huddled in the corner to smoke or smoke in a special area.
On one side of the alley, there is a room where you can smoke shisha in the coffee shop. The layout of the room is like an old-style opium house. You can peek through the slanted glass to see the inside of the room.
Me in the Mist
To connect with modern Hong Kong, there are two spaces separated by a wall built by glass bricks in which the development of drugs is displayed in Hong Kong after the Opium Ban in the pavilion for visitors to sit down and reflect.
